2025
Jersey (a) - We ventured into new territory with a visit to Jersey, where we had the annual beach cricket on Friday where hopes were high. We then played at the wonderful venue of Farmers CC on the Saturday following a daily dip in the channel.
Farmers CC batted first and put us to the sword with 105 put on at more than a run a ball for the first wicket. Eamo (4 wickets - with 5 dropped catches including by himself) and Shaw (2 wickets for loads) gave us some hope before the tail wagged to get them to 260/7 off 28 overs. Rain set in for a long lunch, and a spirited 46 from Humey gave us something to cheer, all out for 113 and another loss on the road.
Spirits undampened and a strong Saturday night out, poems on our minds, meant we felt confident on Sunday of a first victory. We bowled first again and 2 youngsters for Chirpys Chiefs put on an excellent first wicket stand to setup a good, but chasable, total of 228 from 35 overs. Walker with 3 excellent wickets and Humey with catch of the weekend off his own bowling the highlights. Quick pint and batting order out of the hat sent us in. Kygo and Walker settled us down after 3 early wickets putting on 74 together, before Kygo fell for a superb 35. Walker went on to get his first half century and secure MoTM, and Shaw hit a quick 52 before retiring in the last over. Alas we didn’t score quickly enough and finished 166/8 off our overs in what felt like our most competitive game yet.
Alas, 6 defeats out of 6, a few rose wines on the beach and we head home without the elusive win, but as victorious tourists.
2024
Menorca (a) - renewing our rivalry with Menorca we headed out again with a renewed hope and some Scottish blood - a missed flight en route and a day on the beach (bar) on Friday set us up for the weekend.
Menorca started badly with Humey taking debut wicket of the local talisman, before we ultimately got whacked for 266/7 off 40 overs. The less said about our chasing score of 35 the better.
Sunday was marginally better after a splendid dinner and drinks on the Saturday night - we batted first and got to 119 all out with 54 from Ad Shaw, and Menorca took 30 overs to knock them off 3 down.
0/4 on the road - we go again next year.
2023
Menorca (a) - our debut on tour, stepping in for the BAC 11 we went on tour with 10 men against a proper team, and found out, but not without some glory on the way.
Bowling first on Saturday, they went past 100 after 10 overs, and went on to amass 250/9, with their openers getting 78 and 100 respectively - Luke Gibson our standout (only) bowler that day getting on the honours board with 5/28 from 8 overs and a superb spell.
We then set about chasing down the total and started well, Dibbsy getting a run a ball 24 until hitting it into his own face and going to hospital.. Ad Shaw made 108 not out to get 2 Warriors on the honours board, ultimately in vain as we were 199 and 51 runs short.
Sunday was a tough affair after Saturday night, and Menorca dispatched our total of 121 all out in just 15 overs.
